I left my car keys with a friend in New york because they car was over heating and could not be driven back to Georgia. Then I got a phone call in Georgia from my friend telling me that he hit a lady in Manhattan with the car. He told me that they took her to the hospital but she wasn't hurt. I'm scared and I do not know what to do? He told me that he gave the police a different name and now I don't know what to tell my insurance company. Please help!!

First... your friend is a MORON. I also don't see why the police did not catch this as they usually require the driver to show their drivers license. None the less, if your fiend gave the wrong name to a police officer, this can be a serious crime. People usually do that when they have something else to hide... and I'm guessing it might be an invalid drivers license.
You need to report the _correct_ information to your insurance company as you will be held liable as the owner of the vehicle.
People usually don't go to the hospital if they are not hurt.

Beware of such friends. He's not only inviting problem for himself but also pulling you to the mess. Presenting wrong information to the police is a crime and if caught then one may even have to serve a term. Find out who the injured person was and what injuries she had suffered. You may have to inform your insurance carrier about the incident but before find out what your friend was up-to. All the best!

My friend, if you are required to refer the case to your insurance company, then you have to tell them the truth. Misrepresenting the facts to the insurance company is a fraud and if you have decide to go along with the crafted story then be prepared to face the consequences as well.
The insurance company will do their investigation before recognizing the claim. And if they succeeded in digging out the facts then will decline your claim or may even decline to cover you altogether. Therefore, think clearly about all the aspects before taking any step.

THAT is an understatement...what name did he give them YOURS? Where is your car now? Has ANYONE contacted you? You need to call your carrier yesterday and tell them exactly what happened....did you friend have permission to drive your car? If not why would you leave the keys? You and your friend both are in a mess...minimally your rates are going up....your ''friend'' well he's got coming whatever he gets as far as I'm concerned....CALL YOUR COMPANY AND REPORT THE CLAIM 100% TRUTHFULLY RIGHT NOW....to fail to do so is going to just add insult to injury......

Well, For one thing you did not give permission for your friend to drive the car.Your friend could be in deep trouble. You could have grounds to sue your friend .Honesty is the best policy, make sure you get all that straightened out before you get into trouble. Why should you take the fall for their dumb mistake?
