Hi All,
Can anyone throw some light upon the types of coverages that Mental Health Insurance offers? And, where can I obtain one?

Regards,
Kelvin

Check out with your company's HR. Many employers are now offering Employee Assistance Program (or EAP), either through the group health plan or separately, which covers mental health services. Otherwise, you may contact the State mental health agency to get the details of the state funded mental health services.

Where most insurers cover both Mental Health Services and substance abuse (SA) treatments, some may only cover SA if it resulted from mental illnesses.

Hope this information will help you.

Hi there, following are the most popular types of coverages available for mental health plans:

HMO or Health Maintenance Organization- this plan will cover you only if you consult the doctors or the therapists within the network

Fee-for-Service- this plan allows you to choose your medical service providers. The insurer can either pay the doctors directly or can compensate you for the cost of service.

POS or Point of Service- this plan is a variant of HMO, the only difference is it allows you to visit out-of-network doctors.

Best wishes

Hello Kelvin, you can also ask your private health insurance provider to know more about the kind of coverages they offer. Most policies cover psychological problems like- anxiety, depression, phobias etc. However, the insurer may set a limit on the number of sessions they will cover. A conventional mental health care plan usually covers 20-30 sessions a year.
