What specific license do I need to sell auto insurance in the state of Texas?
I have been given two different answers and the website for the state of Texas isn't very helpful.

Thanks,
Joseph

Hi,

Well, the question is whether you're looking for a temporary license or a long-term one!
In order to obtain a 90-day temp. license you'd need to attend 40 hours pre-licensing classes. On the other hand, if you're trying to go for a long-term license there's no pre-licensing education requirement. All you'd need to do is to forward your fingerprints along with the application. You don't need to get sponsors for pursuing your license. Yeah, please do make sure that you're above 18.

Your best bet would be to inquire with the state office that deals with insurance licensing. They would be able to tell you all the specific requirements that are needed.

Sheesh...this was an easy one.

For specific information on temporary licenses in Texas, click on this link. I've directed you to the "General Lines/Property and Casualty" license because you want to sell car insurance.

http://www.tdi.state.tx.us/licensing/agent/revagttempgllah.html

Temp licenses are valid for 90 days, cost $150, require 40 hours of pre-license education, an application and a sponsoring company, agency or agent. You can't be issued or renewed a temp license more than once in a 6-month period.

For a "real" agent license, click on this link:

A good place to look for info is at the examination administrator's site and the "Licensing Bulletin:"

These links should answer all of your questions. Let us know if you need anything else.
