Hi Pinkfloyd, you may qualify for the unemployment insurance benefits if you become jobless/laid off. However, if you leave the job or get sacked due to gross misconduct you may not receive the benefits. Check out with the unemployment benefit department of your state for more information.

In addition to the above mentioned points here are few additional unemployment insurance eligibility criteria that you need to satisfy in order to qualify for the UI benefits,
You need to meet the minimum wage qualifying criteria and must earn sufficient wage before becoming unemployed.
You need to register yourself with the employment agencies and should engage yourself in active job search.
You should be available for jobs matching your education and experience.
You shouldn't have lost the job at your fault.

To get unemployment benefits, you need to have earned enough wages in your "base period." (A base period is a 12-month period when you were working. Your base period depends on when you apply for unemployment insurance). The amount of money that you need to have earned varies by state so, you'll need to check with your state unemployment office.

Hi,
If you'd leave your job without any particular reason being shown to your employer then i'm sure you'll not be eligible for the benefits. The employer would only accept it if it offers a good explanation in terms of wages earned, working hours and the working environment.
In a nutshell, the unemployment insurance eligibility criteria requires you to have a decent employment history in order to collect the benefits.

I know you are wanting to know about unemployment benefits and unemployment insurance eligibility criteria from your state. Yes, you can get both. Although, for those that are looking for unemployment benefits on top of what they may qualify for with their state, private unemployment insurance policies are also available in the market.

Well, I can't say everything about unemployment insurance eligibility , but may be all types of insurances are not available everywhere. Insurance is an evolving market and everyday you stumble upon a new form of coverage. If this policy isn't available in your country yet, don't worry it may become available in the near future, or may be its already there under in a different name. Its worth finding out

REally Horizon? Yes, every state has unemployment insurance that is 'free' to the receiptant if they meet certain unemployment insurance eligibility criteria, ie NOT fired, laid off, earned 'x' amount of money....Employers pay the premiums for this..there are many rules/regulations that must be met, but it is a life saver to many especially now with our economy in such a mess... The unemployment that 'biblegeek' was talking about is a private policy you can buy (which I see no use in and likely would reduce your state unemployment)...
