Unemployed and pregnant

I was let go about two months ago and I am now 6 1/2 month pregnant. Currently I'm receiving UI because I'm still able to work and look for work. Once I approache the due date, I will need to tell the unemployment benefit department that i won't be able to look for work for about 2-3 months. I was wondering if I can re-open my unemployment benefit claim after those 3 months and if so, when they ask for income of 18 months of work, do I list the income of past few unemployed months which is UI I've been receiving? Thank you...

Dear confused_ind: Wow, fun times, huh? I feel badly for your situation and let me see if I can point you in the right direction...

I don't know what state you live in, and every state has it's own UI laws and rules. It's difficult for us to pinpoint any solution or answer for you in any case; unemployment divisions have a tendency to think on a "which way is the wind blowing today" mentality, and commonly confuse the daylights out of people. Especially when presented with an unusual situation. While I wouldn't consider your situation unusual, I wonder how often they run into this on a daily basis.

My suggestion would be to call the unemployment, politely explain your situation to whoever answer the phone, and ask to speak with someone who
"has been doing this for a really long time and really knows what she's talking about." Check out the state's website on this, there might be something there for you as well.

I don't know if anyone here will know how to specifically answer your post, although I hope I'm wrong and another poster will come in. Good luck!
