Uninsured Boater Coverage: How does it help?

Boat insurance is not mandatory and hence many boat owners may not have purchased boat insurance. Uninsured boater insurance is designed to provide protection for you or any person riding your boat if there is an accident with another boat that does not have insurance. This insurance also provides protection if you happen to get involved in a hit-and-run case where you have no information of the other boat that has hit you. Your guests on the boat will also be covered.

The uninsured boater coverage will pay for medical treatment, wage loss and other such damages that any third party has caused you and which you would have received from the insurance of the person at fault if he was insured. There is, however, a coverage limit that you have the liberty to select. In case the cost of treating your injury exceeds the liability limits of the person at fault, you may make use of the uninsured boater bodily injury coverage to pay for the treatment costs.

Figure out the value of the boat first and then determine the personal assets. It is recommendable that you should have adequate liability and property coverage to replace the boat contents. Otherwise you would have to loose your wealth.

Personal boat is considered to be a worthy possession. And you will always try to protect that from the vulnerabilities. It is perhaps true for all of us. So shopping needs extra attention. Check out the tips below:

Customer Service - How the claims are being handled would be one of the most concerned issues for you. Also you are bothered as how fairly and quickly the claims are being reimbursed? You can take help of some known insurance agents, friends and relatives to have the info for the reliable insurance companies.

Reputation and Stability – Insist on choosing an insurance provider with a good reputation as well as a financially stability. A.M. Best and Standard & Poors offer financial ratings for boat insurance companies.

Coverage options - The boat insurance provider you choose should have wide range of options so that you can select the policy that suits you best.

The lowest price would not always be the best protection. To determine the price of a policy you need to consider the price, financial security and the peace of mind.

Hi Liver10,

While insuring your boat from an insurance company you should keep a check on certain things like:

1) First of all, are they giving you the right quote i.e. is your boat worth that price?
2) Are they having wide range of options for the coverage so that you can select the insurance policy that suits you best?
3) Is the customer service offered by the insurance provider really good?

Today you can compare prices and get a very good deal by getting an instant quote online and you can even buy boat insurance online.
