I would check to see if the police report has any information on the policy number.
What you might also try is, if you have the company name, is call the company and let them know whatever information you have on him. I'm assuming you got his name and address or license plate number. The police report should have that information if you did not get it.
If you still have no luck, as a last resort, you should contact your own insurance company to handle the damages and they could pursue the other party for reimbursement. If the guy had insurance, he'd be wise to notify them at that point.

Yes, the police report should have the policy number written down. In most cases the police will give you an exchange form at the time of the accident with all of this information.

Hi tcope
Please let me know if that piece of information could be collected from the DMV! Aren't such accidents gettin registered over there? If so, then the full details in connection with the mishap should be with them...am I rt?
Thanks,

Sorry just gotta throw this in here as I've seen it a ton of times...just because the guy had a proof of insurance card does not mean that his policy is in force (no matter what the card said!)....sorry there Dan, just preparing you...if the dude gave you a bogus phone number you are probably going to find additional information was crap as well....Go get the police report, it should have the information policy number and company...then call the company and file a claim

Accidents are not handled by the DMV so I see no reason why they would know information about them. The police obtain person's drivers license, registration and insurance information at the time of the accident as there are required.
When you register your vehicle the DMV sometimes asks for a policy number but they don't usually update this info.

the police report also wrote down that the expiration date for my insurance is 2-19-08 (i gave him my old insurance but renewed it on 2-20-08; accident happened on 3-13-08 ) would this affect the insurance's company decision giving me money?

ins code: 027
You need to find the key code....this 027 is likely the code for the company...look hard on the report if it's not there call the police records dept and ask them what this is....re: your card, if your policy was in force on the date of loss you have coverage regardless of what the card says...did you get a ticket for failure to prove ins. coverage? If so you'll just need to go to court and show the judge that your insurance was in effect and you simply forgot to put the new card in your vehicle.Posted: Thu Mar 20, 2008 03:15 pm Post Subject:
