We recently have had our roof damaged by wind. The independent adjuster told my husband to fix it himself. The Allstate adjuster said there were 31 shingles that needed to be replaced, and would not pay for such wind damage to roof at all. Why should we settle for a spotted roof, when my friend has State Farm and got a new roof on her house, garage and pool house. She said there were only 10-15 shingles damaged on her house and her garage and pool house was not damaged at all. The adjuster told her he wanted everything to match. Do I need to call the State Dept. of Insurance, get a public adjuster, send nasty letters to the home office or what. Because if I do not get a new roof i will get my satisfaction in another way by slamming Allstate on message boards, chat rooms and if i have to have a spotted roof i will get 31 blue shingles and put a huge sign in my front yard stating THIS HOME IS INSURED WITH ALLSTATE. Thanks for any response.

If the insurance company is ready to pay you for the whole of the roof then it’s the best deal you have pocketed. Ensure doubts, if any, and discuss the best options available from the roofing contractor.

You have a couple of choices. (1) you can call Allstate and ask for a second opinion. (2) you can hire a public adjuster to argue your claim with Allstate. (3) you can involve your state's Department of Insurance by filing a complaint against Allstate.
Or you can do nothing.

Insurance coverage is to put you back to the place you were before the damages. So, if you scratch your car door, they just don't repair the scratch and paint the scratch, they paint the entire door, and more if necessary to blend the color. So, if you had a roof that had matching colors before the damage, that's what they need to provide. If they can exactlyt match, then repair is OK. If they leave you with a speckled eyesore of patchquilt shingles, that's not OK. It might depend on how old the shingle is, and their ability to match it.

To those that just want to replace a few shingles, and they'll match up after the sun hits them in a few years. Would you be OK if you had a dent in your door, they filled it, masked and painted around the dent area only? It won't match, but will when all of the paint ages. The insurance company should restore you to where you were before the damage, not with a hideous looking quilt work roof.

They will only reimburse the damage, i dont think so that they are going to repair it.
Try calling agent.

Go through the policy document again, it must have been mentioned there.
Or try to speak with some licensed agent. A friend of mine work at [link removed per TOU]. Try to give him a call or by filling the contacting form.

The basic premise is the carrier owes to make the roof like it was before the loss. If you had a 20 year old roof and 5 shingles blew off, they owe you to fix 5 shingles. Then you have a 20 year old roof with 5 new shingles. If you maintain your house (shingles really last 10-15 years) you should have few problems. Any roofer that does not know how to fix 2-3 shingles and claim he gets a new roof 100% of the time has been sniffing too much roofing tar.

So if I pay you for a new roof and next year 1-2 shingles blow off will you tear off and replace the entire roof under your warranty?

Rmember 99% of roofers make it hard for the 1% that are honest.
