NetQuote.com Insurance Leads - Buyer Beware!

by rvarney » Wed Apr 21, 2010 11:45 am

Agents/Brokers,

For those that are buying leads from an online leads company, beware of NetQuote.com

I get this lead a few days ago. Naturally, I called the client immediately but got her voicemail. Called again the next day, voicemail. The next day, voicemail. Finally, I e-mailed the client to tell her I could not reach her by phone.

She responds with the following:

"thank you for your time but to be honest i do not need life insurance i just filled out the questioner to get free city bucks in the game i play on facebook. so thank you but no"

HELLOOOOO!!!! Unethical marketing practice exposed!!!

NetQuote and/or its marketing partners evidently offers rebate incentives for filling out online applications for coverage quotes. Now while you WILL likely get a credit for this lead if you call their customer service department (as I did), think about all the agents and brokers that haven't caught any of these. That is HUGE extra money NetQuote is getting from rebating.

Has NetQuote leads led to closed business for me? Absolutely. However, there's no excuse for this. I've shut off my account with them.

I questioned them on another bonus dollars thing for filling out a quote request. The netquote associate said anything like that is not authorized by them. I didnt beleive it.

Of course they lied. How does a company that's been selling leads for years not know what their marketing department or partners are doing?

We'll see what the Colorado Department of Insurance has to say about it as I have filed a complaint. NetQuote is a licensed P&C shop...not too smart of them.

Did you wish to provide me with any documentation regarding your similar situation with NetQuote? I have an open complaint with the Dept of Insurance on them.

We were contacted by 4 agents who recieved the same leads from both sources.. The lead were fake and contained manufactured data such as height, weight and email address. We are contacting the CT attorney general.

All their leads are frauds. They have not given me one lead that the client actually ask for. All they want is my money and it is a legal way to rob the honest working guy.

Hi all,

New to the forum and anxious to meet and chat with new folks.

Regarding the netquote issue, I say this only being devils advocate. Most lead companies utilize affiliates to drive traffic or so called interested consumers in obtaining insurance quotes.

Due to the fact that these affiliates are in fact independent, it is very difficult to police their marketing practices.

Now I know how this system works as we send our traffic from states that we aren't licensed in to them for a small referral fee.

They are not the only insurance affiliate game in town, hometown quotes.com, 2insure4less.com, mostchoice.com are just a few and most have an affiliate program.

I'm lead gen affiliate. I sell to companies like NetQuote.

I have a small agency. I use the same methods to generate leads for other agents that I use to generate leads for my son, my daughter in law and myself.

Unfortunately many other affiliates generate leads in a less scrupulous manner. It would be very costly to police all the affiliates, although they have put various quality control systems in place over the last few years.

Without affiliates, the companies would have much fewer leads to sell.

For example, leads addresses are now using the post office's database.

When you report a bad lead, you are part of that quality control system. If an affiliate's leads are consistently of poor quality they can be banned from selling to that company. They don't want to lose customers if they can help it.
