I have filed an insurance claim for Hail damage for roof. The adjuster came in and processed the claim. I got a check for Roof Repair cost - Deductible - Depreciation adjustment. I was told by the insurance company that i can get the depreciation adjustment amount reimbursed when i get the work completed and provide them proof of work completion.
Now i had called couple of contractors and they looked at my roof and they said there is hail damage signs on the roof but my roof doesn't need to be necessarily replaced.
So now my questin is can i keep the money without getting the work done? :?:
Since i wont provide any proof of work completion and request for reimbursement of depreciation adjustment amount from my insurance company will my company close the claim after 180 days or will they come behind me to get the work completed?

It is always insured for replacement cost. The cost it will be to rebuild that house. Not what you paid for it.

The insurance will more than likely not pay for your roof since it was not replaced 7 years ago. It will show up on the history. We can see all companies you have been with and we can see all claims with every company you've had. In my office claims go back well beyond a decade and we can see if it got replaced or not. Plus they do inspections after work gets complete. We just had one client try that. The did not get the roof replaced 6 years prior and now the interior walls/ ceiling are damaged from this last storm (Water damage from roof leaking). Their new claim is denied. This was a $500,000 home 3950 square feet in a nice upstanding neighborhood. They thought they would sit on the money ($46,000) and collect interest. She tried to tell us that $2000 was what she got. Uhm.... Bank deposits and bank confirmed cashed check.
Same for cars. You come to us and tell us you have had car insurance and I look at the screen. It tells me you had not had insurance in 6 months. Your rate goes up because you are basically considered irresponsible and typically are a claim waiting to happen (Statistical Average). Most times we turn you down for car insurance if that is the case. It will also tell us if you got the car fixed and when.

You may or may not get it repaired, but to recover depreciation under the replacement cost coverage, you will have to replace the damaged items that are more valuable.

I filed a hail and wind damage claim for roof and siding. In the process of waiting for the check I got sick from mold and my insurance company sent me a paper stating they do not cover mold remediation. I then got the check and had to relocate due to extra repairs some related to storm damage and some not related to storm damage to the tune of 10,000.00 out of my own pocket. I cancelled my insurance policy today because I had to use the insurance money to relocate my family to a safe environment. My agent was not really nice and I was completely honest with her. Any thoughts on this?
