Do We Need To Spend All the Insurance?

We are selling a house. Inspection has been completed and we agreed to replace roof. Estimates have all come in around $12-$15K. We had our insurance co. come out and they agreed to cover but they also included a LOT more such as re-staining our patio, fixing some dents on AC unit, etc. The payout was $24K. Do we need to have everything done they said they would cover when the inspection stated only the roof and both parties agreed? Or do we owe some of that back to the insurance company?

Meaning of "Cpl (Including Bi/Pd; Meds)"

Hello-

We are in the process of purchasing a home. We knew the husband of the couple that owned the house had died, but couldn't find any further information on how.

Upon going through previous claims on the property, we came across this "Date of loss" on the day he died. Can someone explain in Leiman's terms what this means and why anyone would put in a claim against homeowners insurance for a death. Does this mean he died in the house or on the property?

Type of Loss/Description: Cpl (including Bi/Pd; Meds)

Water Damage Coverage Question

Guest

We recently had our refrigerator spring a leak in back where the ice-maker water line connects to the fridge. The result ruined our hardwood floor in our kitchen and dining room. Is this something our insurance will/should cover? It's possible (but not sure yet) that a mouse chewed through the water line. Would that matter? Would it make it more or less likely that it would be covered? Thanks in advance.

They refused to cover roof/water repairs after 14 years of continous coverage without any claims. The damage was caused by storm/wind. This has to be their practice from the corporate level. I have paid out of pocket for damage and up keep for 14 years. This company has refused to fix the roof or cover any of the interior damage. They never said what they could repair only that all the damage would be excluded.

What is the definition of "in and upon" vehicle?

I had a new after-market air conditioning kit stored in a Rubbermaid tote (opaque) behind the seats in my 93 Nissan pickup. It cost me almost $1800. My pickup was broken into and the air conditioning kit was stolen, among a few other things. My renter's policy excludes motor vehicles including accessories, equipment and parts - but only if they are "in and upon" the vehicle.

Hi, I am wondering if insurance company will try to get temporary housing reimbursement from contractors who cause water damage to their client, resulting in the client's having to rent an apartment while things get sorted out?

Selling a home after receiving insurance claim money

My elderly mother's home was damaged due to a pipe bursting inside her home. She got the pipe fixed, paid for out of pocket. The insurance company gave her the funds to repair the damage that was caused by the pipe bursting. The people that were giving her the estimates during the process came back and offered to purchase her home and told her that they did not want her to have the repairs made because they would go in a different direction rather than having the same layout rebuilt.

Foundation Question

We have a detached garage that was built in the early 90s on a slight hill with a block and fill type of foundation. My husband lifts weights and dropped the barbell and cracked the slab under the weight. Over time this crack has gotten worse and the blocks have started to shift creating more of a problem. We did have it looked at by a contractor and learned that the slab was not poured very thick and the blocks were not filled with concrete or rebar which made it more susceptible to damaage.

What Does a Home Warranty Give Homeowners?

The concept of home warranty plans might perplex some homeowners. They might wonder, “Do people really need home warranty plans? After all, homeowner’s insurance should cover everything that warranties would, right?”
Actually, no—home insurance covers household systems and appliances in the event of a fire, flood or other disaster. However, most plans do not offer coverage for general wear and tear.
