I just got my life and health license . I have an art program that I take to different pre schools every day for one hour. I was wondering if I could get the permission from the schools to talk to parents about the importance of life insurance ? Do you think if this is a good way to maket life insurance?
Thank you for your time. This is my first post. I like your web site very much.

Congratulations!!! Atlantamonart, I wish you all the success in your new endeavor. Like Dallas_ guy, I too feel that its quite a right move on you part.
Its always difficult for a newbie to start off selling insurance because getting leads are very difficult. I feel you are quite lucky to have had both life and health license at once. You already have the right bunch of people who need life/ health insurance. You can always formulate your sales pitch by showing them 'how essential is life insurance for the well being of their family and future of their children'.
Warm regards,
Carol

Good morning Atlantamonart, welcome to ampminsure and accept my greetings too. Its nice to know that you have liked this site. Hope we will have you around for a long time.
Coming to your query…..well I personally see no issue why you shouldn't be allowed by the school to contact the parents but the school may oppose to get involved in any business activity directly. In that case, if you can manage to get the contact details of the students your job is done. You can then call them up and have a discussion directly. Life insurance is an integral part of one's life and I believe all the parents know this already.
By the way, are you planning to go independent or captive? Just curious.
Regards,
Roddick

Thank you all for your warm welcome and answers. I have found this site for about a week now and I really like to be part of it .
I must say you all made my day by saying it is a good idea to market life & health among the parents of the schools. I sure think they may trust me more as they have seen me for some times now and that I am a teacher. But here is some thing negative about it and that is they know me as an artist , they may think what do I have to do with insurance? In particular later if I want to go to investment as well. They might think I can not be an expert in these fields.
Thank you all,
May-Atlanta

Good Morning atlantamonart,
I, too, congratulate you on achieving a life and health license and at the beginning of what can be a very successful and rewarding career.
I have an art program that I take to different pre schools every day for one hour. I was wondering if I could get the permission from the schools to talk to parents about the importance of life insurance ?
I would advise you to be very careful in this area. You can make a lot of enemies very quickly. First of all, I just don't think the school would even appreciate your asking for "parent" information and secondly, I don't think they will give the information to you.
You are in a good situation to get a lot of qualified insurance leads, but sometimes, we just have to go through the back door.
What do you think about designing some literature describing your art program and on all the literature show that the program is sponsored by -
"ABC Insurance Company" or "John Jones Insurance"? This way you could have hand-outs to give to all the children to take home and show to Mom and Dad. This sponsorship ad would show your lines of insurance and your contact information.
People just don't like to think they are being pressured into anything. This way, you would have a subtle contact with each parent.
Just an idea.
Good Luck

There is a way that we are doing it here. I'm not sure what your situation is there, but we have put together a program that fingerprints children. The purpose of the fingerprinting is in case they are lost or abducted. In the process of fingerprinting the children, we have to get the parents information: name address telephone number. Theres your hot lead right there!! We have found this to be a big hit among parents at the school, and it can "bust the door down" between your art career and your insurance career.
Any parent should appreciate someone else being concerned about their children, and the fact that you are now an insurance agent makes it even easier for you to further protect them. As long as you are approaching it in that mannner, and not trying to seem like you are just trying to make an extra buck, I feel that people will respond to you.
Like all the others, congratulations on your acheivements. I hope you have a long and successful career in this wonderful field.

Way to go knig188!
A fingerprinting clinic is an excellent way to not only help your community, but to obtain prospects as well. I have participated in these clinics and I always invited a member of the local police or sherriff's department to accompany me. When dealing with children, we just have to be extremely careful.
Just make a big deal out of it - publish it in a local newspaper, school bulletin. You may be able to get a free radio spot as a Public Service announcement.
You could even expand it to Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.

Nice information, thank you. I feel that you are pretty advanced in your marketing.
Finger printing is a good idea I never new about that. I will check into that. So at the end you have the name and numbers of parents and you will use direct mail to reach them right?
Thank you

You can use direct mail or even a phone call wouldnt hurt. When I was starting out, I hired people to make my calls for me, because for some reason, when the people found out I was the telemarketer AND the agent, I was less accepted.

This is clearly out of my area of expertice, but I have to comment that Ins. Maze and Knig have provided absolutely top notch responses. Kinda makes a girl proud to be part of a community with such genius at work! Seriously guys awesome help for this young agent!
