Hello my name is Vicki Rosenberg, my father passed last year, in September of 07. He left behind a wife, 4 children and 6 grandchildren. My father was a man that paid all his bills on time, and very hard working. I know my father had a life insurance policy for all his children, because he told me when I was 17, I am now 38. When my father pass my mother and older brother, which he is by another father, but father took him in when he was 4 so he is consider my father's son, anyway they had let us know there was no life policy left for no one, he stop paying on a life policy 6 months okay. My mother stated there were only 30,000 left for her. Everyday I sit in disbelief, my father knows how I struggle as a single parent with four children, and my daughter was his pride and joy. My parents did not even sleep in the same rooms, my mother left my father when I was 15 and return to him when I was 21, since then they sleep in separate rooms in the house and would say hi and bye to each other. My oldest brother took all his paperwork from his desk in his room where my father faithfully sat doing his bills. Sorry for the whole story, but how would I ever find out if something was done, by my mother and older brother to not allow there family to have a life policy, or how would I find out if there was ever one?

If your father's life insurance was through employment, his employer has that information. If it was individual (personal) life insurance, you may be able to identify the insurance company using the Medical Information Bureau's "Lost Policy Locator Service". A fee of $75 will lead to a search of the MIB database for any reports made during the underwriting phase of an individual life insurance application. They claim a 30% or better rate of matching a person to a policy. Do not pay others for this service. The MIB is reliable, all others charge you more and then pay the MIB its $75 fee. Cut out the middleman and do it yourself.

Two years after the fact is coming to the party two years too late. Unless there was some sort of criminal involvement, or you were completely incapable of being located during probate, there is probably nothing you can do at this point.
You'll probably have to find the details of the probate action to figure out what went on, and why you were not involved. Normally, probate cannot be closed if there are known heirs who have not predeceased the decedent.

My Father passed away last month, and his present wife is trying to tell me that my father never left anything behind for us, but I know that's not true. So who do I turn to. Do I connect a lawyer and what kind of lawyer would help me discover if there was a policy or not. Please Help

TamikaO . . .
Long before you go looking for a lawyer, who would be happy to take your money and produce no results, try the Medical Information Bureau's MIB Solutions Lost Policy Locator service: http://www.mib.com/lost_life_insurance.html
For $75, and with a copy of your father's death certificate, they may be able to tell you which insurance company(ies) your father applied to for coverage. They cannot tell you if a policy was actually issued, or give you a policy number, but they can create a starting point for inquiry. They claim that they have about a 30% success rate in helping folks in situations like yours eventually locate a policy.
You can always contact me for additional assistance.

Have to contact the employer and ask them, if you're asking about a group life insurance policy. Otherwise, follow the instructions above concerning the MIB Lost Policy service.
