Can I get an insurance license with a misdemeanor?

I have 2 misdemeanors on my record in Ohio. One is 2 years old and another is 4 years old. Will this prevent me from getting a state insurance license?

Someone I know was arrested for a Assault and Battery..almost 10 years ago. I know this is STILL on his record. I don't know if 'lesser' charges may come off in less time?

Maybe then there are certain time periods for things to come off. Like say a felony stays on for a certain period and a misdemeanor stays on for a lesser period. I was just checking in to see if this post was answered so I'll stop back and see if any one knows for sure. Never had a record but was curious.

That's good for you.

I'm not sure. As far I know that misdemeanour or felony would stay in you report for as long as 99 years.

Will a misdemeanor assault keep you from getting your licence? its about five years old.

In California, the Insurance Code identifies specific misdemeanors that are problematic. Assault would not be one of them.

But the first question on the license application states (shortened): "Have you ever been convicted of a crime? Crime includes military offenses. Convicted means having been found guilty by judge or jury, or by a plea of guilty or nolo contendere. You may exclude juvenile and minor traffic offenses."

The answer to the question, in your case, is YES. And you would have to submit a copy of the court's "minute orders" to show what the charge and verdict was.

Nolo contendere = guilty as far as the law is concerned, and must be answered YES, as must any conviction that was ordered "sealed" or "expunged" or in some way "forgiven" after completing a sentencing alternative (anger management, community service, etc).

Remember, the question asks, "Have you ever been convicted?" DUI, reckless driving, speeding over 100 mph are not minor traffic offenses. Unsafe lane change, failure to stop, a speeding ticket for 10-20 mph over the speed limit, talking on your cell phone while driving . . . those are examples of minor traffic offenses.

The best rule of thumb . . . when in doubt, disclose. Failure to disclose is a death penalty offense . . . that is, death to your career as an agent. At the very least, it would probably result in being called to a hearing to determine if you are a person of integrity and worthy of being issued a license. You could be denied for failing to disclose a conviction that, in itself, would never be a problem, and would have to wait a minimum of 5 years before you could re-apply.

Thinking of getting a securities license? Failure to disclose on that application could result in being barred from the industry for life.

I sat in a court room in TN almost all day today to try and get an assault charge removed. The judge told me there was no reason to remove the charge and that it stays on your record forever. Enjoy! Im also applying for an insurance license next month so wish me luck.

Well, if there's any good news, an assault conviction is not the kind that ordinarily would prevent a person from obtaining a license, unless it was not disclosed in the license application. As long as it occurred at least five years ago, it should be a non-issue.

A misdemeanor came up in background check which i didnt know about so it wasnt disclosed on my application, will this prevent Prudential from hiring me? Its a great opportunity but I dont wanna lose any sleep if they are gonna take back the offer.
