I have 2 misdemeanors on my record in Ohio. One is 2 years old and another is 4 years old. Will this prevent me from getting a state insurance license?

I am applying for my Ohio insurance license they told me everything came back okay through FBI and BCI I also disclosed in writing that I had a petty theft from 1995 on my 18th birthday so it is 22 years old. However even though I've given full disclosure at anything I may have done it is going to a secondary review in all likelihood is this something they will give me a pass on or is this going to keep me from getting my insurance license because even if I get through this then I have to go through Nationwide background also any insight would be helpful

Depending on the severity of the crime, as others have mentioned here, you may or may not have trouble with licensing. The biggest hurdle you'd face would be getting appointed with carriers. If you're going to be a captive agent, it's likely that the agency/company would be the ones holding the contract, and they may be able to get you appointed in their downline. If you're going independent and getting your own contracts, it might become more difficult, especially without a production history. A company looking at appointing you may be persuaded to let certain prior records pass, if the agency holding the contract is a big producer.
You may, also, want to consult an attorney to see if those prior records could be expunged. One of our agents had a felony from 20 years ago when he was a teenager, and was able to go through a process to get it expunged. It took about two months and a couple thousand dollars, but it was worth it in the long run, even if he never works in insurance again.
Getting your record cleared, if possible, would be the best advice in any situation.
