I have a feeling that we are possibly talking about event insurance over here. Catering insurance and event insurance are very different in terms of the coverage offered.
Firey, if you are engaging a banquet hall for marriage party or birthday party (or whatever). The hall authority may ask you to carry event cancellation and liability insurance to avoid any loss of property or money.
Catering insurance is required by the chef in order to protect himself against incidents life- loss of food items, wastage, employee issues, possible contamination of food, liability against food poisoning and such.

So if catering companies are in this line of work for a living they probably carry this type of insurance as a regular insurance.

They would almost have to, it would be just like the insurances that we carry everyday, life, auto, home and since this is their business it would be wise of them to carry a running policy, would not make sense for them to shop by event. I am sure they carry a policy through out the entire year.

Hey don't feel bad I answer myself all the time. At least I know someone is listening then. Anyway as I said they probaly do pay a yearly insurance. Why I agree is because I use to work at a place that rented out their building for different occasions and I remember the guy crabbning about the insurance costs.

unfortunately, it is a necessary evil, espcially if you are going to have people drinking on the premises.
