Pre-Existing condition not known at the time ins. was cancel

My husband was having some problems with headaches. He had some brain scans and MRI done. The doctors never found anything wrong. Our insurance was cancelled Dec 2009 after these procedures were done. We are looking for new insurance and found out my husband id denied because of a pre-existing condition. We called our family doctor to find out what they were talking about. The doctor told us that my husband has Pineal Cysts. This was news to us. He said that the neurologist had contacted. If we would have know about this condition before our insurance was cancelled we would never have cancelled it. Could our old insurance company be required to take us back since we were unaware of his condition?

Who cancelled the insurance? You or the insurer? Your initial statement makes it seem as though the insurer cancelled, but then you state "we never would have cancelled it," which leads me to believe you initiated that action.

A medical dictionary has this to say about pineal cysts:

"A pineal cyst is a fluid-filled mass that can occur in the pineal gland. True pineal gland cysts are not brain tumors; rather, they are a completely benign cyst. The cause of these cystic masses are not known.

The large majority of pineal gland cysts do not enlarge much if at all. However, some enlarge over time slowly.

Although a true pineal cyst is benign and usually harmless, because they can mimic a tumor, they often need to be distinguished from other cystic tumors which can occur in the region of the pineal gland."

If they are a benign condition, then it would not be likely to be a preexisting condition for which a person would be denied coverage. You could attempt to reinstate your coverage with the former insurer or continue to seek new coverage elsewhere. Be sure to disclose the condition to your agent who should be able to find an insurer that will accept you, assuming this is the only things that's wrong.

You could be withholding details that would definitely change my opinion and that of an insurance company.
