Life insurance policy

My Mom recently received a letter from her insurance company(now it was one insurance company & than changed to another) They said they were sorry for the loss of her husband, but he was the owner of the policy & said she would need to change information, because it was in his estate. I have the original policy with my Mom's name on it& a letter from the insurance company back several years ago saying they had changed names. I am very concerned. Someone called her not long ago about changing her payment to yearly instead of monthly. She said I can't afford it, & they said ok. What are your thoughts?

My died died almost 14 years ago.

The policy is in my Mom's name

So it could be easily proved that they had changed the information with respect to the insurance carrier's request. But the only question that comes to mind is - why on Earth did you wait for these 14 years! Any specific reasons?
Looking forward to your bond with me as a new forum member :)

Hi aog!

In case the benefits are still available ( you may easily find that out with the DOI norms) I wish you'd certainly have them in your pocket sooner!

Someone called her not long ago about changing her payment to yearly instead of monthly. She said I can't afford it, & they said ok.

I guess that would have only changed her payment option (which was not mandatory) & denying that didn't cancel/affect her benefits by any means.

Good morning aog, and welcome to the community...

You didn't tell us what 'type' of policy this is...auto? life? health? There should not be any real problem, if your mother has a local agent take the paper work you have to their office and they will help you straighten it out...If not then call up the same person (yourself if stuff like this stresses mom out), and tell them, ''i have in my hand a paper dated blah blah showing the change, now where can I fax you a copy of this?" that should be all it takes...ask of course that they respond after receiving the information so that you know everything is taken care of...

Please advise what type of policy, and if there is anything else we can assist with. I don't think this is anything to have too much concern over, but sounds like a clerical problem...
