I had my 2006 chevy colorado stolen on dec. 23, 2007 from the backyard of my in-laws house. It was found 11 hours later in the marshes and it had water all in the cab and a water line that reached the top of the bed. The police said they had a string of thefts lately and it was possible that could be what happened. I had left it unlocked since it was a safe place(so i thought) and i always had my spare in the glove box since i had a history of locking my keys in. nobody knew this but me and my wife. i was told i would be contacted by an adjuster by jan 1. well i didnt hear from him till the 4th, then i was told i would be contacted by an investigator by the 4th. that didnt happen untill the 12th. on the 25th, they told me that they chose to do an EUO and i would be given a phone number for the attorney to set up my appt by the 28th. today is the 4th of february and i have not heard from the since. I had looked at getting a replacement vehicle the whole time and was told i couldnt get a letter stating they were taking over it untill after the investigation. well, on the 9th of jan i found a vehicle and the dealer called and they sent the letter. so on the 25th they said they wanted to go thru an attorney, even after i got a letter saying i had no interest in the vehicle anymore. I spoke to a military attorney today and they said i may want to look into suing the company. any suggestions or advice. Im also getting ready to go on deployment to afghanistan and when i leave i cant do anything.

I would give someone else like a parent authority to handle this claim for you. There may be a SOL on it ,you think? Lori , help us out here?

Yeah, I've handled a lot of claims where the insured is deployed and wife, mom someone has a POA (power of atty)...I would for sure on the voice mail and inwriting (saving a copy for yourself) stating when I would be gone and when i would be back.

no, i havent heard nothing else. i even called to speak to the supervisor and got yet another voice mail.

Most VM will give another extension to dial if no answer. If not, if memory serves me correctly ( :) ) you can press 0 from USAA's VM and speak to someone else. You NEED to do this yesterday! Keep going up the ladder until someone answers your question. Here is why... USAA operates like the military. What would happen if I called your commanding officer and complained about you? How about your commanding officer's commanding officer? Stuff rolls down hill in the military and it does at USAA also. You have a _very_ legit complaint! I mentioned another option was to ask the operator about speaking to someone and filing a complaint. USAA offices have special units to address these complaints (you can simply call and ask to speak to the VP of claims and I'm betting this will get you to that unit as well).

You may also want to plan on looking for other insurance. Leaving a vehicle unlocked with the keys in the glove box and telling co-workers this information is not an insurance risk USAA would want. How much is the truck worth? Would you leave this much of your own money in the glove box and tell people about it? Knowing this, I understand why the carrier wants an EUO. Prior to having a key pad on my door I would use a chain link fence tie to secure a spare key to the undercarriage of my truck. Not many thieves are going to crawl under a vehicle to search for a key. Too many other, easier, vehicles to steal (ones that are unlocked with the keys in the glove box).

Ones that are unlocked by the key in the glove box? That goes with the spare key in the glove box thinking. How would you get into the car to get the keys to unlock the car? I'm confused.
