Hi

I have a car which I lease and it was parked in front of my Fiances house which is located at the corner of a three way stop sign intertersection. A 18yr driver ran the stop sign and bashed into car. He damgaed the light the bumper and rear panel and bent the axel. He was gonna take off till he saw me running out and writing down his liscense plate.

So I got all his info and called his dad. His dad agreed to pay for all the damages if we didnt go thru insurance. I agreed and typed up a quick contract that stated they will pay for the damages. The also have a brother who works at a body shop.

the next day we got it towed to the body shop and quoted about 8k worth of damage.

The farther then changed his mind and decided to go thru insurance.

My question is does this go thru his insurance only and not mine? Reason Why I ask is because I dont want my insurance to go up. I was told 2 different stories that it would and it wouldnt. Also becasue I wasnt drving it would be go thru his insurance only.

thanks for all help

Yes, if he has insurance then he has liability coverage which would address the damage to your vehicle. He needs to report the accident to his carrier and they will either contact you or you can follow up with them.

One bit of advise, I'd obtain the name and policy number of his carrier before this goes any further. The problem here is that he just not want to report it to his carrier and he may think this will allow him to walk away from the situation.

Hind sight... most people carry a mobile phone with them. Most have the ability to take pictures. Pictures of your car and the other person's car at the accident location would have been good.

If he does not file a report with his carrier in the matter of a day or two, I'd suggest filing a belated police report.

No, they would not contact your carrier. Good thinking, to take pictures. It can really help.
