My husband and I own a small company, so we can qualify sometimes for group plans. We joined NASE - the National Association for the Self-Employed - mostly because they offered group vision and dental plans through MegaLife Insurance.
I pay $43 a month for the coverage (in addition to the monthly dues to NASE), which is very cheap. However, I didn't realize that MegaLife is one of the WORST payers of dental coverage in the market. My son needed a root canal and even though we had already passed the one-year probation period for level 3 coverage, we still paid over $1000, and that was after the dentist gave us a break.
When my son needed a second root canal on another tooth (done previously), insurance didn't cover ANY of it, because it was a tooth that had already had a root canal.
So I pay practically nothing, and I get practically nothing in return. I need a good dental plan that doesn't charge thousands in premiums per year, but that also provides decent coverage for the self-employed. Any ideas, referrals, suggestions?

Was it already mentioned in your paper works that such teeth won't be covered under your plan? Have they mentioned anything regarding the pre-existing conditions?
I could empathize with your situation and I hope, I'd be able to get back with more information soon.

Finding credible dental coverage in the individual market can be tough. It's important to read all the fine print when you get dental coverage as an add on to medical insurance. Sometimes it's better to get a separate policy specifically for dental. How did it all work out? Did they come back and pay the claim?
