health carrier changed

When a company decides to change health insurance carriers and you've met the previous carrier's $3000 deductible, are you required to meet the new carrier's deductible too? My daughter had a baby on May 26 while under Humana ($3000 deductible) and then four days later BCBS took over. It's crazy that she's now responsible for another individual deductible. We're in Tennessee if that makes a difference.
Thanks for your input.

Companies do contract for the best health care plans and they can and do upgrade options of their current policy or look out for better options and salespeople may call.

If your daughter's company changed plans it is likely at the end of a contract period and her deductible would start over anyway. If this is not the case, it may be possible the new plan anticipates previously met deductibles or partially met deductibles and provided for this in the new policy (if it is less than a contract period year).

Daughter can call the numbers provided by her plan to find out, talk to her human resources too.

To specifically answer your question, I don't know of any state that allows a new deductible to be applied in the case of mid-year replacement of an employer-sponsored plan. In all cases that I'm aware of, the new plan is required to give credit towards the new deductible anything that had been applied under the old plan's deductible.

As previously stated, if it's a new plan year then normally a new deductible would apply.

What state are you in? Give us the info, and I can tell you the rule. I hope!
