I purchased a second vehicle

I purchased a second vehicle and thought I had a grace period to add to my insurance. In the meantime, my son had possession of the vehicle, loaned it to someone else and it was totalled. My insurance company won't cover. Who do I go after to hopefully pay for this vehicle.

I can't speak for every insurance company with 24 hour CS but with mine you can do anything you need to; payment, endorsement, add, cancel, request copies of insurance cards, etc.

Of course, I had customers call a couple of weeks later only to discover that what the 24 hour people were requested to do, was nothing even close to what they actually did.

Agent = good.
24 Hour Line = maybe good.

I can see the difference. It is great the 24 hour line is in place but I usually would prefer to speak to my agent directly.

I usually wait till the last minute to pay my premium so I have become familiar with the 24 hour payment line. Drives my husband up the wall, he would pay it as soon as it would come in, I usually pay it with in the week, not the last 24 hrs.

I have not filed an insurance claim in so long I would not know where to start, I am relying on the freindly people at Geico should something like that happen. Hopefully it don't, but if it does that 24 hour line will come in handy.

Luckily anytime I have had a claim (deer damage) it was usually during the week and even if it did fall on the week end we have other vehicles to run in the meantime so it really isn't much of a big deal. I just have my insurance auto deducted. I am anal about bills such as mortgage, car insurance and home insurance. These type of bills come straight out so that I do not take the chance in forgetting to pay them. I started this for the extra discount and when both my hubby and I were working so many hours that it would have been easy to skip over a bill by not relizing it was due.

Good idea, FIREYONE. But, don't be "anal" about FORGETTING your bills are coming out of your account. :roll: :lol:

I would have called the same day if possible if not, it would definately be the next day, but the vehicle would not be on the road until I did have the insurance transferred.

I do not lend my vehicles out, it has to be a real, real, real emergency for any one but me or my husband driving our vehicles.

Anyway, I think that the smart thing to do is to not let anyone behind the wheel until you have it transferred, grace period or not.

I think the person who was driving will be responsible, they are licensed drivers right?

Here is the kicker...

tcope, what you explained was perfectly fine..only that it seemed too much time consuming for me..what about the conveyance of the insured for all this while? And what about the success rate of such lawsuits?

SD, I am not in danger of forgetting other bills..I am "anal" about those too. Got a little log book what bills are paid when..the extent of it would blow a persons mind.
GN, I follow pretty much the same rules you do in lending a vehicle and also agree that I would not let anyone drive a vehicle until it was transferred. Doing so could cost a person their whole life.
Anon, I too would like to know the success rate of these lawsuits.
