I want to know if buying cancer policy is a good idea or not. I've recently come to know about an aflac cancer policy from my workplace but before buying one I'd like to hear it from people who have used it or have any kind of experience with Aflac.

Thanking in advance.

Hello Psujem00, thanks for taking time in sharing the information with the members. It'd certainly help them a lot with their decision making. I too personally have heard good things about AFLAC. In fact some in my house too have AFLAC plan through their jobs.

Hopefully you'd never get diagnosed with cancer but it's better to be covered if the need arises.

If you have a family history of cancer or have reason to believe you may be at risk then the AFLAC policy is a solid choice. It will not pay your medical bills. That is not its purpose. This pays where health insurance leaves off. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has medical insurance and medicare. She does not have a cancer supplemental policy in place. We are finding first hand how many extra expenses may be involved. My parents are afraid they may lose their home.
I am at an increased risk due to family history. It gives my husband and I peace of mind knowing these added payments are available since I will likely lose some work if I need to be treated.

Not a big fan of this sort of thing. I would look for a critical illness insurance policy. It pays for cancer, heart attacks, strokes, and other serious illnesses.

Aflac also offers a more expensive cancer policy that reimburses you all of your premiums if you don't get cancer. So you can look at it as a savings account in either case.

I bought a policy 20 years ago and I've had to use it 2009. They came through for me.

Cancer treatment often takes many months before its completion and includes a whole lot of method which are very expensive. So, medical insurance could be vital. Alfac insurance's policy might vary from state to state. So go through the policy terms carefully. It generally covers the cost of primary treatment and also the subsequent complications. However, if cancer is pre-diagonised before the purchase of the insurance policy, Alfac insurance does not provide any coverage.

Keep in mind that critical illness policies normally pay a lump sum upon the diagnosis of a critical illness and then the policy is cancelled and done with.

Specified Illness, or Dread Disease contracts are what companies like Aflac offers. They pay for diagnosis and ongoing treatments for the specified illness instead of a lump sum.

I've always favored critical illness if you have good medical expense coverage. You can use the lump sum benefit any way you want, and I've seen plenty of contracts that offer significant levels of coverage.
