While most of us are concerned with health insurance due to the rising costs of healthcare, we neglect the important one-Dental Insurance. Dental diseases are common and should be protected by the dental insurance.

Dental insurance is a specific type of Health Insurance. It generally deals with the Dental professionals, mainly towards the procedures performed by them. Dental insurance is quite inexpensive to insure in terms of costs. Most of the dental plans do not have the deductibles which health insurance does.

Dental insurance is essential for the people who care about their teeth and also don't like to pay the full price for the dental works.

Dental insurance plans usually implement a waiting period o' about 6 months to 18 months before the beginning of the coverage. And the waiting period ensures that the new insurer will not pay for the old problems.

My friends! Believe me … all the major dental ailments can be avoided if necessary precautions can be taken in time ! With time bound check ups and sense of cleanliness our oral health can be properly maintained. This is very much unlike a common medical insurance. Its really cost effective to treat dental problems through testing and other related procedures if it gets detected in time.

Thus it adds a lot of value to your life by covering for your routine check ups compared to a medical policy that might only cover for your expenses towards diagnosing, treatments and other medical cures. Even the best of dental care won't often need a treatment system which is as complex and expensive as a general medical care.

The acute problems of the dental/oral health can be depicted by the following data:
According to the "Surgeon General's Report on Oral Health," – May 2002, around 108 million Americans do not have dental insurance. In addition to that it has been analyzed in the report that the poor children suffer more than twice with the cavity problems as compared to the affluent ones.

Dental health is quite important for the overall health. As the dental health and other diseases are interrelated. Persistent oral infections can cause heart and lung disease, diabetes, and even stroke. The list of problems not ends here. The usual physical functioning like breathing, eating, swallowing can also be distorted. The poor dental health among children and elder persons perhaps the outcome of the lack of dental insurance.

Guys..its truly wonderful to know about a dental insurance plan where its even possible for us to choose our dentists. The plans that offer you such a choice are better known as the open and the closed panel plans.

The Open panel plan allows you to choose your own dentist or for that case any dentist would have the right to treat you or deny you a treatment. The closed panel plan offers you a dental care treatment only through the enlisted dentists who have entered into an agreement involving another party.

I'm sure this small piece of info would serve a lot towards resolving many of our dental issues.

My insurance through my husbands job covers a different % on each proceedure done and only up to 1000 a year. A root canal can take all of that. However I have found that with a lot of dental work a Dental Discount Plan called Ameriplan is even cheaper than insurance. You can get more info at mybenefitsplus.com/rrolson. Hope this helps.

Hey SD, Are you looking for dental insurance plans in PA? Thats where I live,as you well know, and you can try for a program called Blue Chips. It is there for chidren under the age of 18 REGARDLESS of your income. You could recieve a no payment plan or a low payment plan but they make it affordable so kids can get dental coverage.
My husband a quite a few years ago had a really decent job and good medical but no dental. We were put on a low payment plan for the kids. Now he full benefits for all eye, medical and dental but I tell ya it was there when we needed it.
They also have a plan for adults and it is called Adult Basic. There web-site use to be insurepakids.org.
