More than likely, yes. Depending on the reason for canceling insurance, most insurers will charge more to insure someone without current vehicle insurance compared to those who are currently insured. Much of this depends on the state where you live and again, why you are dropping the coverage.
If you are selling the car, your carrier will not normally have a problem with a short interruption in coverage, and will usually reinstate coverage if you buy a new car within a reasonable period of time. "Reasonable" depends on the insurance company in most states.
If you are thinking about canceling the coverage simply because you either can't or won't afford it, and continue driving without insurance, well, you'll get what you ask for in the event of a ticket or an accident. So, I'm hoping that you are no longer in need of a car, for whatever reason, and that's the reason you're canceling insurance.
Others will contribute to this thread, so keep watching and let us know what state you live in so we might be able to give you some specifics.

I find this very hard to understand so I'm just gonna say...
If you cancel one policy before you have another (covering the same vehicle) then you have no coverage. I'm really not getting your post, please explain it more clearly.....

Are you talking about canceling insurance and getting another auto ins. policy in its place!
Or is it that you're pointing out towards any insurance policy (eg. life, home, health etc) that you might apply?
