Hi..
President Clinton had indeed proposed it way back in 1993. It was an universal health coverage that was proposed keeping every American in mind. But as far I remember, this proposal was more than 1000 pages and didn't quite succeed after it got introduced in the Congress.

Hi..one of its key features contained a national health board.

The national health board was to be created as per the legislation and it was expected to control all the health care operations across the US. In doing so the federal govt. would have control over a vast section of the nation's economy.

This proposal had shaken the conservatives quite a bit. Mermaid-attitude

Hey, did you forget the Standardized benefits and the employer-backed health insurance coverage?

All the major health care benefits e.g. medical check-ups, psychological counseling (including drug victims) had to be taken care by such plans. Policy holders were to bear the expenses towards associated benefits. But yeah, it did fade out after the hype!

Hi, I think with the 'employer-backed health insurance coverage', it was mandated for all employers to support their employees with a health coverage and they were supposed to subsidize around 80% of its worth (employees were expected to bear the rest of it).

But this plan didn't seem to click with those who voted for a fully nationalized plan that would bear all costs associated with it. Roddick

I'd rather believe it to be the "Harry and Louise" thing that crushed it!
I believe it was popularized by his opponents. Many of the viewers were excited to move the congress against such a legislation. Do you all remember that? OldmanGarcia

Hi OldmanGarcia..I have reasons to believe that such a proposal was destined to fall irrespective of such campaign's surfacing. If I may say...different people had different opinions at that point of time..Do you remember the reform debate? I'd believe it was quite polarized. Many of the experts had started believing that it was just a matter of time before the govt. would plunge into it. But, I was always in favor of market-oriented reforms.
