My father in law just past away, he was 59 years old worked for 27 years at the same place. My mother in law was insured through his work and now has to pay $300 a month to keep health insurance through his work. She is 59 as well. Is there any advise as to what will work for her?

It's not quite clear to me..are you looking for life insurance for your mother-in-law? Or is it that you're asking whether she can have one currently?

I take it your Navy insurance plan carries over coverage for you after you retire? If so you'd need to take a look at the coverage and see if it extends to immediate family or not. even if it does, I'm not sure it would extend to in-laws.

Your best bet is to get on the military insurance, widow benefit. That said, I wish I could get insurance for $300 a month. I am 54 and they want over $800 a month to cover me, which is more than I make a month. I have RA and asthma, that is why they want so much. Some companies will not even take me at that rate. Your in-law is lucky she has not health issues, then it is worse.
