I am considering a switch over to my wife's insurance for quite some time. Will it really help reduce my insurance costs?

It could certainly add to your savings. If both of you have health insurance options through your employers, then it's time for you guys to sit and compare each others' benefits. Along with the benefits, you'd also need to compare and see which one is easier to afford.

Take the advantage of the open enrollment period. This period might allow you to shift from one particular health plan to another. This has got nothing to do with your health condition.
