Hi,

Can I afford to pay for multiple health insurance policies from different carriers?

Or would it be cheaper to go for a better policy with any one of them?

A bit confused!

Above all else you want to make sure you have all the cover you need.

that said, you also want to make sure that you aren't duplicating cover, as this is wasteful.

when you say multiple policies with different carriers, are they for different people or are they different covers for the same person?

In general you're best to have all your insurance with one carrier as you can save on premiums that way, but you want to make sure that 1. the carrier you use provides all the cover you need and 2. you pick the best value carrier.

It would be worth doing some shopping around and comparing prices with different insurers, it's pretty easy to get competitive quotes online now.

hope this helps.

I'm 40 without any pre-existing health condition. I got laid off a couple of months back and now comes my time to renew my coverage. I'm into another job with lowered returns. I was simply wondering as to what could be the best thing for me to do right now!

I'd agree to the point that certain losses couldn't be covered by a single policy. But at the same time you should remember that all carriers design their policies in such a way that their clients don't get any opportunity to achieve extra profit from their coverage.
If they'd offer such undesired opportunities, people would file claims to earn profits rather than to cover their risks.
