Homeowner's Insurance questions

Hello,
Right now I have my home owner's insurance with Amica. However, unfortunately they are charging me $573 which is more than double what AllState($273) is charging. I have read several places on the web that AllState is the worst insurance provider and Amica is rated high in http://www.badfaithinsurance.org/index.html . Wondering if all the bad hype against AllState is true and if sticking with Amica with higher premiums is worth it?

Here are terms of my current insurance:

A. Dwelling $ 100,000
B. Other Structures $ NIL
C. Personal Property $ 15,000
D. Loss of Use $ 7,500
Section II Coverages
E. Personal Liability $300,000
Each Occurrence
F. Medical Payments to Others $2,000
Each Person

Well your coverage is pretty pitiful if you ask me. $100,000 dwelling and only $15,000 personal property? Most companies offer 60%-75% of dwelling as personal property coverage. $7500 loss of use? Most policies would offer 20%-30% or more of dwelling. In both of those coverages you have about 1/4 what most insureds do. And you like paying for it?

Is this coverage for a mobile home?

You'll never know whether you are paying too much or not until you have a claim. Life is better when you have no claims. If you don't mind overpaying for what you have, that's your choice.

It is a condo and the exteriors are covered by the HOA and the interiors by me. First I want to confirm that I can find a reliable insurance provider, I don't want to pay a company only to be denied a valid claim on a technicality.

This could happen with any insurance company. It mostly involves a failure to read the policy and understand what is or is not covered.

Still, the coverage limits you state for personal property and additional living expenses are, in my opinion, too low.

Even for a condo (HO-6) policy.

Your choices are (1) find a reputable broker in your area and have them shop for your coverage needs, or (2) spend your own time trying to get quotes from all the companies you think are "reliable" and decide which one you prefer.

I'd personally also like to exerpss that most individuals who find themselves without health insurance are usually students, self-employed and people who are laid-off. More than half with the uninsured are under the age of Thirty five. They do not really feel they are in need of health insurance since they are young and healthy. The income is normally spent on homes, food, along with entertainment. A lot of people that do work either full or part time are not made available insurance by way of their work so they go without due to the rising expense of health insurance in America. Thanks for the tips you share through your blog.
