What does renters insurance cover?

We have moved in our Connecticut house a week before and the owner has asked us to get a renters insurance. I don’t know whether or not it is legally binding to get one while renting a house. Even if I get a coverage, what would it save us from and how much would it cost? Thank you in advance.

Facing problems getting my shop insured

Hi everybody,

Just wondering if anybody here had any problems getting/keeping his/her shop insured!! When my last homeowners carrier increased my premiums by over 100% without any prior warning, I started shopping for a new carrier. As of now, I’ve been turned down by more than 5 companies just because I have separate metal building on my property. Moreover, I’ve also been turned down because there is a pond within my property, as well as not having a fire hydrant within 500-1000 ft..

Our house and cars are insured with Nationwide for the last 30 years. It was very expensive and therefore a good friend of us told us about a local broker who had helped him secure a good deal on his insurance. When I called the broker, she told me that our overall quote would be $1500 less a year than what we had been paying all the years.

Can they nonrenew because we didn't use settlement check?

My insurance company is threatening non-renewal because our property is in "disrepair" because we were devastated by super-storm Sandy and again by blizzard Nemo. There are trees down all over our property which they won't cover to be removed. They sent a check for one tree removal on our fence, but our fence has dozens of trees on it.

The mobile home is pretty much depreciated as far as I can see. My spouse and I don’t have the required 20% down payment. We can get 10% in a pinch and the asking price is 63300 for both house and land.

Should PMI be considered BS2 debt or BS6 debt?

Hello,
For those of us who purchased a house before getting enlightened with FPU (purchased house right before FPU) and therefore have a 30 year mortgage with PMI as part of the escrow should we consider the debt a BS2 debt or a BS6 mortgage?
We just got our escrow statement and it showed that on year 26 of our 30 year mortgage we have 83% loan to value. Of course to get the auto release of the PMI we have to either pay the mortgage down to 78% or at 80% loan to value we can get an appraisal and request in writing that PMI get removed.

Roofer tried to make me not pay deductible

So I had a large deductible on my roof amount of 2600.00. Well a roofer said he would take care of it. Repaired my roof and gutters. My insurance company mailed me a check for partial amount minus depreciation of around what my deductible was. Well I just got a call from my insurance company that they are not going to pay the depreciation because the invoice they got from the roofer wasn't for the full amount of the claim. So now it seems as though I'm 2500.00 short on what I or the Insurance company owe the roofer?
