Can a convicted felon with a aggravated assault charge in 2002 obtain a license to sell life, health and accident insurance?

Google "your state" (assuming you live in the USA) & "department of insurance" & check out the licensing requirements on your state's DOI web site.

I would say a felony would disqualify you, but since it was in 2002, you should check it out. Who can get licensed depends on your state's requirements.

Actually, federal law has something to say about this. The Federal Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act (18 USC 1033-1034) describes the persons who are ineligible for licensing in insurance or financial services without a waiver from the state regulator. Aggravated assault may prevent your licensing.

You will have to apply for a license and include a completed "1033" waiver form for the state, and a decision will be made. Fees paid for this process are not refundable if your application is denied.

I would like to get my license for health and life insurance but in 1988 i was convicted of welfare fraud. by working and receving for 2 months. in illinois, I moved to missouri in 1998 the court had ordered me to pay back the money and gave me probation for 2 years. I did not pay back the money. I would like to know if I now have a chance to get a licence. Now that I am 58 years old? will I be denied?

Felony or misdemeanor? Both are problems and you need to wait at least another year (until more than 5 years has passed since your most recent conviction). You are thinking about entering an industry in which you will be in contact with other people's money, including their checks, and forgery and insurance don't mix well. The DIrector of Insurance would likely describe you today as a person who is not worthy of the license being sought, is someone who is lacking in integrity, and that it would be contrary to the public interest to issue you a license.

This is part of the most highly regulated industry in the world, and you will be scrutinized.
