It could, but probably will not. You need to ask the state insurance regulator.

Theft offenses are among those under scrutiny, as are drug offenses. You won't know until you apply for a license and submit a 1033 Consent Waiver application.

Hearings are at the discretion of the regulator. Under certain conditions, the regulator is not required to conduct a hearing and there is no right of appeal in those cases. You have to discuss the matter with the state Dept of Insurance.

I don't think your past drug conviction from 7 years ago will affect you getting licensed. I had a friend who had a misdemeanor charge for paraphanalia and got a massage license a couple years later with no problems. For anyone else wondering if they can get a license with a history of criminal convictions..it depends on the severity I'd guess..but why would you go through all that trouble when you can still sell discount healthcare benefits. It's not insurance, but you don't need a license and you're not restricted to selling it in one state. I just looked it up and it's available to all states except Alaska, Wyoming, Vermont, N.Dakota, S.Dakota, and Montana. Hope this helps. You can check my profile for more info.

Anything is possible. As long as you disclose it on our application you will have done the right thing at this time. If you are in doubt, call your state Department of Insurance and ask them. Each state treats misdemeanor convictions differently.
I've seen people with drug offenses such as possession of marijuana or misdemeanor assault obtain a license without so much as a question from the Dept of Insurance, while a person I know who pled no contest to a misdemeanor "lewd conduct" offense and has successfully completed three years of probation is being called to a public hearing because he has been deemed "unfit" to hold an insurance license. Go figure.

BEWARE OF PERSONS SELLING "DISCOUNT HEALTHCARE BENEFITS".
THOSE "PLANS" ARE **NOT** HEALTH INSURANCE AND WILL NOT PREVENT YOU FROM HAVING TO PAY THE "SHARED RESPONSIBILITY PAYMENT" TO THE IRS FOR NOT HAVING A QUALIFIED HEALTH PLAN AS REQUIRED BY THE PPACA.
DISCOUNT HEALTH PLANS ARE WORTHLESS!!
WORSE THAN THAT, THEY COST YOU MONEY WITH WHICH YOU COULD BE PAYING LEGITIMATE HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUMS.
Anyone paying cash for health care can ask a doctor or hospital for a discount, and will receive a reduction of up to 30% to 50%. You don't need to pay some outfit $40+ per month for crap like this. And that's exactly what it is . . . CRAP.
Mr. Discount Healthcare is not a licensed insurance agent, and sells "discount" dental plans for $19.95 per month. When you compare the "benefits" of his plan to a legitimate Dental HMO plan, you will discover that you will pay far more out of pocket for "discount dental" than you will for an insured dental plan.
Don't waste your hard earned money on this junk.

Had 2 felony larceny by employee charges. Deferred prosecution. Allowed charges to be dropped. Can I obtain license to sell insurance in North Carolina?

The answer depends on whether you have been CONVICTED or only charged. If you were never convicted, then you will probably not have any issues to resolve. But the crimes you committed would be of the type that are covered under the 18 USC 1033 prohibition if you were convicted.
